About the Artist
For over three decades, I have devoted my life to artistic expression. My creative path began with a fascination for the smallest of canvases—grains of rice. For 25 years, I mastered the delicate art of writing and drawing on rice, traveling across the country to share this unique craft at art and craft shows. My work, celebrated for its precision and originality, earned awards and built lasting connections with admirers who appreciated the artistry in miniature.
In recent years, my creative focus has shifted to larger-scale works. With paint, mixed media, and handmade designs, I continue to explore new forms of expression while staying rooted in the same artistic spirit that shaped my early work. Each piece is a reflection of a lifelong passion—where imagination, detail, and heart meet.
Whether working small or large, art has always been my language. It’s not just something I do—it's a way of life.

Douglas E. Young (1954-2019) was an artist whose vibrant paintings reflected his unique worldview and playful humor. Born in Indianapolis, Doug earned an anthropology degree from Indiana University and traveled extensively across the United States, Europe, Northern Africa, and Australia. In 1981, Doug settled in Seattle, inspired by a recurring dream, he began painting, creating art for his own amusement with a tongue-in-cheek ambition of “world domination.” His vibrant works, influenced by Aboriginal dots and vivid colors, as well as European post-impressionists like Van Gogh, Picasso, and Miró, often featured bold schemes and unconventional mediums. A music enthusiast, Doug curated eclectic mixtapes and painted portraits of musician, listing songs on the back of his frames. A dedicated professional, he worked with developmentally disabled children for over 30 years. Prolific yet private, Doug left behind hundreds of paintings, gifting many to loved ones but never selling or publicly exhibiting his work.
